somewhere, unaware of here 2020

The pieces that make up somewhere, unaware of here are works that transform surface into object. They give form to the cusp, the breath, of a moment. They are stillness solidified and a myriad of possibilities slowed down. Meaning, a moment held in suspension allows us to see all of the things gone unnoticed and undiscovered. All that was and all that could be is held in a state of metamorphosis.  They are both disappearance and manifestation. A representation of a place that is not grounded in any space or time but the surreal flux of these spaces we find ourselves floating in and away from. This work creates a space for looking; looking through, beyond, and around the surface. The surface of water that lulls us between two worlds and allows us to be together and separate with ourselves. The surface of a conjured place where tangibility emerges and fades simultaneously. Viewing this work is an experience that mimics meditative or contemplative states but is fostered through looking. It offers a way to get lost in a place beyond reality and what can simply be described as somewhere in between. Through the use of perception and materiality, softness and subtlety, stillness is solidified. Somewhere, unaware of here is a body of work that gives permanence to a temporal state. By stabilizing a fleeting moment there is room to explore and contemplate what stillness really is.
